About me

  1. I have completed successful Lake Ontario Crossings (August 1990 & August 2006), and am an official Swim Master for SSO (Solo Swims of Ontario) with a track record of bringing over 10 successful swimmers across the Lake. In 1993 I completed the very cold & treacherous crossing between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island. To date I am the only person crazy enough to do this LOL. In 1996 I coached my very good friend Nicole Mallette across Lake Ontario. I am the proud recipient of The Cliff Lumsdon Award for recognition of outstanding achievements in solo marathon swimming in Ontario.
One of my favourite crossings was in 2004 when I participated on the Lake Ontario relay from Niagara on the Lake to Marilyn Bell Park commemorating Marilyn's 50th anniversary of her historic crossing. Marilyn has been my hero since I was a little girl and now as she puts it a "best friend from a distance". I was lucky enough to be taught how to swim (before I could even walk)by her coach - the great Gus Ryder. I have been swimming for Etobicoke Masters Swim Club since 1981, (training 4 times a week) and I still compete. I am a World Masters Champion and have competed at the World Masters Championships in both pool and open water events since 1985. I look forward to this summer and attemptig something that has never been done before. IT'S EXCITING :D
